I agree with most of that, but would then argue for much stiffer penalties for crimes/accidents that happen when people are on drugs. People still can be violent and do terrible things under the influence of drugs, alcohol.... If you are home in a locked room, one thing, in public damaging others another. One last thought, what about children. It is one thing for you or I to make an informed choice with our lives, it is quite another to addict my children on heroin because I am a slacker father. This would remove their agency in a way, because they are too young to decide for themselves. Obviously, this is a complex issue. But absolute freedom may not be the answer to everything either. Who knows?
