Mark Twain's War Prayer

Twain wrote The War Prayer during the US war on the Philippines. It was submitted for publication, but on March 22, 1905, Harper's Bazaar rejected it as "not quite suited to a woman's magazine." Eight days later, Twain wrote to his friend Dan Beard, to whom he had read the story, "I don't think the prayer will be published in my time. None but the dead are permitted to tell the truth." Because he had an exclusive contract with Harper & Brothers, Mark Twain could not publish "The War Prayer" elsewhere and it remained unpublished until 1923.

- Paul Craig Roberts

"Independent thought is not a concept with which very many Americans are familiar or comfortable. Most want to have their emotions stroked, to be told what they want to hear. They already know what they think. A writer’s job is to validate it, and if the writer doesn’t, he is, depending on the ideology of the reader, a misogynist, a pinko-liberal commie, or an operative for the fascist establishment. All will agree that he is a no good SOB . . . respect for truth has fallen and taken everything down with it."

John F. Kennedy . . .

"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control. And no official of my Administration, whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know."

Patrick Henry . . .

From: CRIMINALITY OF WAR By Howard Malcom, D. D. President of Georgetown College, KY - 1845

"The universal maxim has been, "in peace prepare for war;" and men are all their days contributing and taxing themselves to defray the expenses of killing each other. Scarcely has a voice been lifted up to spread the principles of peace. Every other principle of Christianity has had its apostles. Howard reformed prisons; Sharp, and Clarkson, and Wilberforce arrested the s1ave-trade. Carey carried the gospel to India. Every form of vice has its antagonists, and every class of sufferers find philanthropists. But who stands forth to urge the law of love? Who attacks this monster WAR? We have not waited for the millennium to abolish intemperance, or Sabbath breaking; but we wait for it to abolish war. It is certain that the millennium cannot come, till war expires.
Shall it so remain? Shall this gorgon of pride, corruption, destructiveness, misery and murder, be still admired and fed, while it is turning men’s hearts to stone, and the garden of the Lord into the desolation of death? Let every heart say no. Let Christians shine before men as sons of peace, not less than as sons of justice and truth. If wars and rumors of wars continue, let the church stand aloof. It is time she was purged of this stain. Her brotherhood embraces all nations. Earthly rulers may tell us we have enemies; but our heavenly King commands us to return them good for evil; if they hunger, to feed them; if they thirst, to give them drink.
Rise then, Christians, to noble resolution and vigorous endeavors! Retire from military trainings, and spurn the thought of being hired by the month to rob and kill. Refuse to study the tactics, or practice the handicraft of death; and with "a hope that maketh not ashamed," proclaim the principles of universal peace, as part and parcel of eternal truth.

Interesting thought from Patrick Buchanan:

"Since Bush I, we have intervened in Panama, Kuwait, Iraq, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya. Had Sens. John McCain and Joe Lieberman gotten their way, we would have been fighting Russians in Georgia and bombing Iran.

Add up all those we have killed, wounded, widowed, orphaned or uprooted, and the number runs into the millions. All these wars have helped mightily to bankrupt us.

Have they made us more secure?"

Is dirt really such a Bad Thing? by Steve Jones

"Germ-free mice do not thrive: their immune system is feeble, their bowels do not move as they should, and they are generally unhealthy. Such animals are also anxious and obsessive. Our internal bacteria make plenty of the nerve transmitters associated with mood, and inner filthiness may even play a part in keeping us cheerful.
The developed world is in the midst of an attack of conditions in which the body’s defences fail to respond properly to external enemies. They include allergies, multiple sclerosis, juvenile onset diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome, in all which the immune system turns upon itself.
Too much hygiene can be harmful. Children from affluent families without a dog, living in cities rather than the country, who stay home rather than going to nursery are shielded from infection – and are more likely to suffer from such diseases."

The 1st Great War of the 21st Century Has Begun by Gerald Celente

"Only in a mad political science fiction movie could a President engaged in perpetuating two unjust, immoral, interminable, and expensive wars begun by his predecessor, take his nation into yet another unjust, immoral, expensive, and, in all likelihood, interminable war … and expect a happy ending.
Eight years of war in Iraq and 11 in Afghanistan have resolved nothing and served only to inflame anti-American sentiment around the world, drain the US treasury, kill and wound hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of innocent people, and destroy the lives, limbs, and souls of thousands of American troops.
Batting zero on the battlefield, the mad political scientists have stepped up to the plate again. Despite nothing but failure, President Obama has decided, unilaterally, to squander still more American men and money in a war on Libya, promising that this time he won’t strike out."

Food for thought: The State vs. Christian Moral Values by Scott Lazarowitz

"If one's loyalty is to the State, as opposed to being loyal to the Rule of Law and to moral values, then one's loyalty to the State requires one to support acts by . . . the State that are immoral, thus un-Christian. Unfortunately, too many people, in their intellectual laziness and their passive, blind obedience to anything the State tells them, have accepted their government's crimes against others . . . in the name of "fighting terrorism," or punishing people for using drugs or whatever.
It is very difficult for me to believe that someone who is Christian-minded and who believes in the aforementioned moral values could approve of a government knowingly apprehending and detaining totally innocent individuals at random as the Bush Administration had done for years following 9/11. Or the U.S. military's and CIA's indiscriminate drone-bombing murders of innocent Afghani and Pakistani civilians. Those who believe that's okay but don't believe it's okay for Al-qaeda or the Pakistani government to fly remote-controlled drones over the U.S. and indiscriminately murder innocent Americans do not believe in the philosophy, 'Don't do unto others what one would not want others to do unto you.'"

Zero Tolerance Policies: Are the Schools Becoming Police States? by John W. Whitehead

For Joe Buck & Kirk who will never read it :(

“We end up punishing honor students to send a message to bad kids. But the data indicate that the bad kids are not getting the message.” ~ Professor Russell Skiba

What we are witnessing, thanks in large part to zero tolerance policies that were intended to make schools safer by discouraging the use of actual drugs and weapons by students, is the inhumane treatment of young people and the criminalization of childish behavior."

Interesting . . .

Want to see something freaky and very telling? In witchcraft and demonology, spells are "cast" by means of "magic mirrors" - which are believed to be the entrance to other dimensions. "Through the looking glass" is more than simply symbolic, and the Qabala mystery religions teach that "Lilith" enters into this "world" via "mirrored walls" which are "the entrance to her cave."
Now comes the freaky part. On May 1, 1776, Sabbatean cult disciple Jacob Frank conspired with Adam Weishapt and Nathan Rothschild. In a highly demonic ritual, the trio communicated with "Father Lucifer" who revealed unto them the "Darkest Priesthood the World had ever known!" The Jewish "Frankite" cult named their organization the "Illuminated Ones" (Lucifer, the "Son of the Morning" brings "first light" or "enlightenment" to the world.) The House of Rothschild controls much of the earth's wealth. Their elitist organization is called the "Illuminati".
In demonology, secret names have power inter-dimensionally when reversed or "mirrored". Thus Illuminati becomes itanimulli. Check out what happens when you add .com to itanimulli:

9/11 – Mission Accomplished? by Nila Sagedevan

"Have no doubt: Fear has been drummed hard and hammered deep into the Sheeple. Precisely as planned, millions of ordinary human beings have been artfully molded into a submissive, tractable pulp, ready to believe virtually anything they’re told, eager to concede just about every freedom they cherish, willing to relinquish almost every right they hold precious—all so they can be “protected” from those turbaned, self-detonating camelback bogeymen lurking behind every bush . . . utterly brainwashed into believing one thing above all else:  “Al Quaeda’s gonna getcha!”
. . . if we can willingly sink to this level of abject degradation, and elect to live in a world of manufactured illusion and deception—perhaps we deserve it."

Pro-Lifers for Mass Murder, by Laurence M. Vance

This is a great illustration of "consevative" hypocrisy, and what I once tried to explain to someone on a long road trip to Boise . . .

"Why are pro-lifers so indifferent to, and in some cases so defensive of, war, militarism, and nationalism? I think the main reason is ignorance. Ignorance of the Republican Party. Ignorance of U.S. foreign policy. Ignorance of history. Ignorance of the military. Ignorance of the Bible they profess to believe . . .
Pro-lifers should be just as concerned about their government sanctioning the killing of foreigners on the battlefield in an unjust war as they are about their government sanctioning the killing of babies in the womb in an abortion.
It is hypocrisy in the highest degree to talk about the sanctity of life and the evils of abortion and then turn around and show contempt for, or indifference to, the lives of adults and foreigners."

The Banality of Killing by Jacob G. Hornberger

"How can all this massive, regular, permanent death and destruction not affect and infect a society? Sure, it all takes place thousands of miles away. Sure, it’s buried on page 14 of the newspaper. We don’t see the caskets or the burials. We don’t see the crying, the anguish, or the anger of the survivors. We just go about our daily business, deferring to authority. Our public officials know what is best. That is their job. We have to trust their judgment. If they say that American soldiers and CIA officials have to stay in Afghanistan and Iraq permanently and just go on killing people forever, then we, the citizenry, just have to accept that. If they say they have to expand the killing to Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia or wherever, then that is just the way things are. They are the experts. They are in charge.
In the process, everyone convinces himself that the people who are being killed are “bad guys” or people who just happened to be too close to the bad guys, including their wives, children, other family members, or friends.
Of course, the possibility that the U.S. government – the invader, the occupier, the interloper – is the “bad guy” doesn’t even enter into most people’s minds. The thought is too horrible, too terrifying. It might cause citizens to have to search their consciences. Easier to simply continue “supporting the troops” who are “defending our freedoms” by killing all those people on a regular, weekly basis."

Why I Pick on Republicans by Laurence M. Vance

I haven’t always picked on Republicans. In fact, I used to be one, faithfully voting for all the Republicans on the ballot to keep those evil Democrats out of office. As a conservative who had never been exposed to libertarianism, I was a Republican by default. Oh, the political ignorance of youth! . . .

I rarely criticize the Democratic Party, but not because I have anything but utter contempt for it. The socialist and statist policies of the Democratic Party are well known. It is the party of liberalism, socialism, feminism, collectivism, abortion, organized labor, big government, environmentalism, affirmative action, welfare, paternalism, taxing and spending, income redistribution, and every alternative lifestyle known to man. The Democrats are evil, but they are predictably, dependably, and consistently evil. The conservatives who mistake me for a Democrat are many times warmongers who think that to oppose imperialism, militarism, war, and empire means that one is a liberal . . .

When was the last time a pro-life Republican ever expressed concern for the life of any foreigner killed by U.S. bombs and bullets? . . .

Why do I pick on Republicans? They deserve it, that’s why. America is quickly becoming a fascist police state, thanks in a great measure to Republicans and their PATRIOT ACT, Department of Homeland Security, war on terror, TSA, and war on drugs. Instead of complaining about Democratic legislation passed during the last two years, Republicans in Congress should look in the mirror."

An Iraq War Veteran’s Quest for the True Meaning of Liberty and Patriotism by Andrew Mason

"Going into high school in 2001, I had no idea what the future held for me. Then 9/11 happened. I had the Bushian mentality (being raised in a staunch Republican household) of "let’s go get some," and since he had said that I could either be "either with the terrorists or against the terrorists," I wanted to be against the terrorists like every other American. My motivation and will to live were at their highest they had ever been after I enlisted in the Marine Corps. I thought to myself, "I am going to make a difference in this world. I am going to fight for our freedom!" I graduated from high school a semester early in January of 2005 to attend Marine Corps Basic Training. I deployed twice to the killing fields of Iraq, and I was completely oblivious to the fact that the war was based on total lies. . . ."
